I have been quiet of late as, between snow days and exams, winter infections and open days, my children seem to have been at home more than at school.
While I may not have been blogging much, I have been sewing!
I’m excited to show you all my latest pillow pattern AND as a special New Year bonus, it is a 2-in-1 pattern!
This pillow is 18″ square and with straight forward machine applique, it is quick to make. The finished pillow would be a wonderful birthday, thank you or house-warming gift.
The scrappy border uses 2 1/2″ strips so it’s perfect for using up any spare jelly roll strips.
I love some of the Moda floral prints in this pillow.
I made this as a house-warming present for a good friend who moved into a new home . . . well, sometime last year. . . . ahem!
Her new living room has accents of purple so it took me a while to collect enough purple prints!
I don’t know what you think but I always feel purple, yellow and grey are under-represented in fabric ranges.
My stash is overflowing with pinks, blues and greens but pitifully short of deep rich purples. Alas!
It was fun choosing the fabrics for each mug. I really liked the look of the newspaper print for the tag of the tea bag.
I pieced the pillow back with four strips of fabric of different widths and added buttons to the envelope back closure. Instructions for this back are included in the pillow pattern, of course.
I said this was a two-in-one pillow pattern and here is the second version!
This large, festive pillow is 22″ square and includes a pretty holly motif. I used raw edge appliqué to stitch the holly leaves for a shabby chic feel. And there’s button berries too!
For both cushions I kept the quilting very simple. I outline quilted around the appliqué and stitched in the ditch for the borders. The curls of steam were free motion quilted.
I traced the lettering onto the linen and back-stitched it with some gorgeous embroidery floss but you could also free motion quilt the lettering.
A full-size template for the words is included with the pattern.
For more information on how to machine appliqué, check out my tutorial .
On purchasing you will receive a SEVEN page pattern with full size templates and detailed instructions, illustrated where appropriate.
All the details you need to make BOTH pillows are included in the pattern, so you get two patterns for the price of one!!

What a pretty pillow, and such a great idea for a gift. Hope you are all happy and healthy in your home now. We had a snowstorm on Monday, while we were gone. Came home to 17 inches of snow in our driveway. Phew.
Oh my goodness, Wendy! Everything ground to a halt here when we had 3 inches of snow! Hopefully the worst of the winter is over now, sending warm thoughts your way!
Great pattern! I love the red version, very pretty!
Thanks Quiltypatch! I appreciate you taking the time to comment. x
Hi Sandra, I love your pillow pattern, the pillows say “warm and cozy.” ☕️ You always pick the perfect fabric combinations and I love the button back too. Glad you have time for your sewing through the winter woes 😋
Thanks, Abbie! It’s bright and sunny here this morning so it’s nice to feel that spring is on the way.
This is just adorable and I love the shades of purple that you selected 🙂
Thank you, Deb! Moda do the loveliest prints.
Lovely pillows, Sandra! I really love that tea bag!
Thanks, Kathleen! As a dedicated peppermint tea drinker, I had to get a tea bag in there somewhere!
A very adorable pillow – love it in the Christmas theme! Thanks for sharing on Midweek Makers!
Thanks, Susan! I appreciate you taking the time to pop over!
