Ta-dah! So pleased to show you this quilt top. Several people had contacted me over the past year asking if I had a nativity quilt pattern available so I set some time aside this autumn to design one.
You can buy the complete nativity quilt pattern or buy a five piece bundle which includes the star, the angel, the stable, the shepherd and the wise men. Finally if you have your eye on that star or angel, each block pattern is also available individually. All patterns are also available in my Etsy shop.
Aside from the camels, the blocks are all 12″ square blocks. The star pattern comes with instructions for a 6″ block also and I used this smaller version in my quilt. The 12″ star would work well too though.

The angel block comes with instructions for both a left and right facing angel, with or without a heart. If you chose not to make the heart, she could hold a string of heart buttons or a little applique Christmas stocking. A single angel would make a lovely pillow for a nursery room.

There is lots of detail in the central three blocks so they are more complex than the others.

The little sheep were fun to sew. They would look cute in grey too with a pale background.

I used Moda Grunge for the quilt top but some quilters have made gorgeous versions by fussy cutting fine prints for the details on the Kings’ tunics and for their gifts.

The camels are straight forward to make and, like the angels, they come with directions for both a left and right facing version. I am going to sew up a camel with a patterned saddle and stripy fabric to make tassels along the bottom edge.
I am starting to think about projects for next year, are there any themes you would particularly like to see? I’m thinking about a pond quilt, a woodland animal quilt and some more nautical blocks. I’d love to hear your suggestions though.
Hope you can fit in some creative sewing time this festive season. Enjoy all the preparations,
Sandra xx
