The pattern for this block is available NOW in my shop.
I love the changing seasons and have long intended to design a Calendar Quilt. Then I had to design one. My eldest daughter has taken possession of the pinwheel bag and that, according to the youngest daughter, “is NOT FAIR!”. I promised to make her a Calendar Quilt for her bedroom wall and harmony has been restored!
If I’m honest, January is my least favourite month. I’ve always thought of it as a cold, dark, hungover kind of a month. However for the start of the Calendar Quilt, I designed a block to celebrate the last days of winter! I wanted it to be wintry but not Christmassy, so I steered clear of red and green and went for a rose, coral and teal colour scheme instead. The robin entered the block as they’re so cheery hopping around the garden at this time of year, like little splashes of colour in January’s murk!
The block uses mainly applique, with some simple piecing. I really wanted to have the month name visible on each block. Himself works in education and is not adverse to a bit of subliminal literacy hung on the bedroom wall!
Each month, I will be posting the relevant block from the Calendar Quilt so do keep checking back or, even better, sign up to my blog to be sure you don’t miss any posts!
A bit late coming to the party but I have just discovered your awesome blog and your gorgeous Calendar Quilt which I would love to make – where can I get the patterns please?
