My poor neglected blog! The last few weeks have been something of a whirlwind! Sometimes I just run out of day before I’ve had time to update this little corner of cyber space.
This is my very latest pattern which I released yesterday. It is for an 18″ square pillow.
I chose some delicate pink fabrics in a range of tones and put them with a natural linen background. I love to use linen with cottons. It makes the cotton colours gleam and the linen adds a richer depth and texture. I knew pink would be popular with the Misses Healy!
When working with linen, I look for washable cotton linen mixes such as this one from The Cotton Patch. Thicker linens do not quilt as well although the texture is quite lovely! All linens fray more than cottons so trim the linen down to size just before it will be joined to the next piece.
Linen stretches much more easily than cotton. I use a light spray starch before cutting and cut along the grain. Lighter linens with a loose weave are more fragile and may not be robust enough to withstand multiple washes.
The pillow is finished with a simple envelope back closure. The binding adds a pretty touch!
I intend to make another fluttering heart pillow with a rainbow theme. It would have nine beautiful hearts ranging from red to purple to blue, green, yellow and orange.
For a more sophisticated theme you could go for a low volume version with pale ivories and creams and maybe a navy outer border.
Each heart can be made from one left over 5″ charm square so it is great for using up any left over charms or other scraps that you might have laying around.
The fluttering hearts pillow is a really quick and easy project which is such fun to make!

What a cute pillow. Thanks for linking up with TGIFF.
Thanks, Anja, I appreciate you popping by!
This is super cute!! 🙂
Thanks, Debra! You can’t go wrong with a few hearts, I reckon!
I love this pattern. It is just so sweet, simple and appropriately sentimental. I feel like some weeks my blog gets neglected, too, but it does take time to get some quilting done for blogging!
I think you hit the nail on the head, Kathleen, there’s time to sew OR blog but not enough time to sew AND blog! Thanks for your kind comments about the reindeer quilt, I’m very happy with how it turned out. I am a little bit obsessed with Christmas projects!
